After 12 incredible years on Wan Chai’s Ship Street, 22 Ships is thrilled to begin a new chapter at PMQ in Central. Since opening in 2012, we’ve been a pioneer of Hong Kong’s vibrant Spanish dining scene—first transforming Ship Street into a culinary hub and now bringing our signature social, sharing vibe to the heart of Central. In 2020, Madrid-born Chef Antonio Oviedo joined forces with JIA Group to reimagine our menu, guiding a culinary evolution that honours timeless Spanish traditions while infusing modern creativity. With our no-service-charge philosophy and lively, convivial setting, we invite you to experience the warmth of shared plates, bold flavours, and moments in our new home.

The 22 Ships Experience

At our new PMQ home, we bring Spain's vibrant bodega culture to life with shared plates, Spanish wines and a convivial atmosphere perfect for groups. Chef Antonio Oviedo crafts menus through Spain's diverse regions - honouring tradition while adding modern flair using premium ingredients directly sourced from Spanish producers. Our all-Spanish beverage program features rare regional wines, sangrias, beers, classic street-social style drinks, including choices of sherry, vermouth-based cocktails, and homemade liquors.

Meet Chef Antonio Oviedo

A native of Madrid, Chef Antonio Oviedo brings over two decades of culinary expertise and a deep passion for authentic Spanish flavours to Hong Kong. His journey began in 1999 during Spain’s gastronomic revolution, where he trained under some of the country’s most celebrated chefs—including Sergi Arola, Fernando Arellano, the Roca brothers, Santi Santamaria, and Eneko Atxa—at Michelin-starred restaurants across Spain.

In 2012, he ventured to Asia, refining his craft in Singapore before settling in Hong Kong. Today, he leads the kitchen at 22 Ships, a vibrant Spanish restaurant bar in collaboration with JIA Group, reinvigorating Hong Kong’s love for Spanish cuisine.

His Philosophy

At 22 Ships, Antonio crafts menus that blend time-honoured recipes with contemporary creativity—each dish made from scratch, As he puts it:

"With 22 Ships, we wanted to bring Spain’s multi-regional cuisine to Hong Kong. Opening during the pandemic was a challenge, but the best compliment I received was from a guest who said, ‘I was supposed to be holidaying in Spain right now, but at least I can eat here.’ What an honor. Hongkongers have embraced Spanish food, and I hope to see the city’s energy return—we just need to stay positive."

The Partnership & Trust

His collaboration with JIA Group is rooted in mutual respect: "Yenn Wong gives me complete trust—a rarity in this industry. After 20 years, I’ve never felt so supported. She lets me develop my vision without micromanaging. It’s special."
